what a BART shop is

a BART shop is a repair or restoration business that applied to binovy, verified the identity of the person behind it, and talked to a curator on a video call before being admitted. a BART tech is a person at one of those shops. shops in good standing are listed on the roster below, and any collector can send them work from a piece's page.

sending a piece for work

open the piece, choose request work, and pick a shop. the shop can accept, decline, or ask questions in a thread that both of you can read. a shipping address is shared through a card in that thread, never typed into a message, and can be withdrawn while the request is open.

a request moves through five stages: requested, accepted, shipped, in work, and returned. when the work is done the shop files a service entry on the piece's record with the date, what was done, the parts used, and the cost if you want it recorded. an entry filed by a BART shop is verified from the start and carries the shop's name, so the next owner knows who did the work. your own requests are listed under repairs in your menu.

joining as a shop

apply with the form at the bottom of this page, or while creating your account. the application asks for your shop's name, the kind of business it is, where your work can be seen (a website, an ebay or etsy store, other links), what you restore, how many years you have been at it, and when you could take a video call.

the curation desk reads every application. before a shop is admitted, the person applying verifies their identity through Stripe Identity (a government id and a selfie; binovy never sees the document) and takes a short video call with a curator. admission puts the shop on the roster and opens the BART dashboard, where incoming requests, active jobs, and the shop profile live.

membership terms

membership is free. every completed service on a piece that lives on binovy must be filed to its record. entries filed by a BART shop are verified from the start and carry the shop's name. a falsified entry means suspension. standing is either good or suspended, at binovy's discretion.
